| military overview The Military of Escova is a powerful force both inside and outside the Islands. With no internal police force, the militia is not just the main defence against external threats, but also the main defence against internal ones. The military is well-armed, well-trained, and fiercely loyal to the land and the crown. army The soldiers of Escova form the bulk of the military. Tough, well-trained, and highly-disciplined, they are also the main policing force within society. All foot soldiers are issued standard gear: a one-handed steel broadsword, a circular shield, and various daggers. There is a small Cavalry, and well as other specialized ranks such as siege experts and pikemen. Archers are another important aspect of the army, with each archer being proficient with the use of the deadly Escovan long bow.
The ranks for the army are as follows: recruit, private, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, general. navy The country depends on its navy to keep it safe from external threats. Warships have been built and regularly patrol the sea of Tristella, fighting rampant piracy, raids by other countries, and accompanying trade-ships to the tumultuous Mainland. Seamen are often trained as regular foot soldiers and assigned ship navy duty. It is not uncommon for a common soldier or archer to see a few rotations of land and sea in his career. Most soldiers are given a few months of navy training during their initial military training.
The ranks for the navy closely mirror those of the military. The only difference is that general of the fleet is referred to as Admiral. All other titles stay the same. battlemages Battlemages are the magical aspect of the Escovian military. Like their counterparts, they are also well-trained in combat, but they augment these skills with magic. They are masters of defensive and offensive spells and tend to be Warders of a higher quality. However, their repertoire of spells is usually limited to a handful of highly effective spells and, due to the nature of their job, are rarely trained to learn the more complex and intricate ones.
Battlemages are a fairly small group, and thus lack the stratification of the other military units. There are two units of about 150 members, each led by a Battlemage Captain. scouts A small group, scouts are usually stationed on remote islands and sent on ships to gather and relay information. They are often trained as Archers with Scout being a secondary title.
