Several nations' currencies are mentioned in the Chronicle. It can be assumed that all major nations in The Four Corners of Civilization have their own currencies, though all seem to be similarly structured, with iron, copper, silver and gold coins of increasing value.
Currencies mentioned regularly:
Currency of Ceald
Currency of the Commonwealth
Currency of Vintas
Ceald was the first nation to develop a standardized currency, historically made by slicing ingots of iron. Althoughthey are probably cast individually today, they are still made in the shape of a cross-section of an ingot.
The debasement of Aturan currency, which is responsible for extreme economic turmoil and the subsequent collapse of the Aturan Empire, resulted in a treaty written by the Cealdish government, known as the Quiat Auriam, which gives them exclusive rights to lend and exchange gold coinage; a right that they still protect fiercely to this day. Because of this fact, their currency is one of the only forms of currency that will be freely accepted wherever you go throughout the Four Corners of Civilization.
The most valuable Cealdish coin is the gold mark. Other denominations include the shim, the iron drab, the copper jot, and the silver talent. Converted roughly, 11 shims make a drab, 10 drabs make a jot, 10 jots make a talent, and 10 talents make a mark.
